Foxglove or triffid?
in Plants
I have some foxgloves in my garden which were raised from free seeds of a magazine. They are in their second year. Most of them are about 3 foot tall and flowering away. However one of them is now about 7 foot tall and grows around 6 inch a day. The flowers are also big.
Can you please let me know if this is normal and is it possible to collect the seeds from this plant as I would love to grow more triffids.
Thank you.

Wow! What an absolute belter! What did you feed it? Burger and chips?!?!
Wow that is amazing! I have never seen a foxglove spire so tall. You could allow it to seed itself in your garden or collect it but you may find the seeds do not all grow so huge. Foxgloves are very promiscuous and bees will transfer pollens from any foxglove to another. Its a beauty for sure.
Good grief, I have never seen a foxglove like it, I suspect you have been feeding it banned steroids!!!
I've got some foxgloves excelsior from t&m seeds, and about 7 of them are now 6'+, they look fantastic.
Unusually, I've also got some 6'+ white and pink foxgloves this year, and the more usual 3-4 foot ones, all self sown. I have one in poor soil which is 6'+ and others in richer soil the same size. Maybe the weather's played a part. It all seems very random! I've never sown any named varieties only some white ones about 3 years ago, what comes up each year is pure serendipity.
i saw a tip from a foxglove breeder who said if you collect seed from the bottom pod on a foxglove flower spike, they are very likely to be the same as the parent plant
How do you save the seeds from a foxglove I'm new to gardening but very enthusiastic any help would be appreciated
I wouldn't save them, when everything is over and they've gone brown, either just let them seed themselves or cut the stem and shake it where you'd like them to grow
In the sticks near Peterborough
