Fig tree

I have had an fig tree (brown turkey) in a pot for around 8 yrs now. It has always stayed outside.

I have a raised bed against my boundary which is around 300mm wide retaining the ground outside with a drop of 3' inside the garden. The position is protected by a 6' fence and it drains well.  I was wondering whether I could plant the fig (5' tall with the pot) in this poition. It is 4' away from the house. It has always struggled to make any lush growth in the pot.

It has one fig this year and I feel it wants to do more and would love it to become a bigger tree.

The position is sheltered and sunny, A clematis is rampant there at the moment. With regular pruning I may be able to keep it a reasonable size?

Is the position good for a fig? Or should I plant it away from the house or keep it in the pot.

I have heard that if you keep it in a pot in the round it will do well.

Thanks for that advice. I may just treat it to a better pot and soil then!

  • We bought a fig tree last year and so far no figs (When do they start growing?) I read that they like their roots to be as contained as possible and this will encourage more fruit.

How big it the pot? Maybe treat it to a slightly bigger pot?
