Red ants

I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on how to treat red ants,       I have been living at my present home for about 8 years now  and have never had a problem with red ants, before  until  now,    and  it was only  by chance  that my  4 year old  grandson  came running into the house like  a raving  bunchy  screaming is eyes out with  red ants crawling all over him  I hope somebody  can help with some positive advise

    Poor thing. I got bitten by a giant red ant whilst staying with family in Cambodia, it was extremely unpleasant. 

    I've never had red ants at home, just run of the mill black ants, I've always used boiling water so as to avoid using chemicals.  

    There must be a predator you could encourage to come help and dispatch them too- expect most birds would like them?
