Climbing roses in containers- was it successful or unsuccessful?

RubiRubi Posts: 131

HI everyone

I want to grow a climbing rose on my shed wall which is approx  2.2m high and 2m wide.

I have recently laid a patio upto the shed and I'm considering growing a climbing rose in a container.

Can you tell me your experiences in growing climbing roses in containers, whether good or bad.

I would like to know if it's possible to grow a climbing rose in a container.

Thanks.

Some do quite well in containers, but they all do better in the ground. Check the ultimate height and spread before you buy one and choose one that won't be too vigorous.

    In London. Keen but lazy.

could you lift out one of the pavers next to the shed and plant it there? that's what i am going to do for my climber this weekend out the front of the house after much research and talking to various people, i think if it's a small growing one you may be ok with a very deep pot with john innes no.3 and lots of manure but will need lots of watering, i've bought a 'madame alfred carriere' and it's a biggun so it needs to go in the ground image

Can I plant the climbing rose in an area in the ground next to the shed that's 80cm long and 15cm wide?

Rubi, you could, but lift a slab as sanjay has suggested instead. Don't forget the support framework behind the rose before you plant it.
