Moving a rose in flower

I have a Rock and Roll bush rose in a large container and pergola that has to be dismantled due to scaffolding, if I dig the rose out and move it into the garden is that any chance it will survive? (The container is too heavy to be moved)

Hi. What a beautiful rose to have. The best thing to do is to cut back the rose as if you were doing the Spring prune and then dig out the rose with as much root as possible. They do move easily but by removing the bulk of the top growth the rose will quickly make new roots as it settles in to its new position.

course, Jason, if you have no-where to move it to, I have just the spot in MY garden, with our clay soil.  Incidentally, what are you going to do about the big container its in, as you said thats too big to move?

Depending on how long it has been in the pot be aware it's roots may well have found their way out of the drainage hole and into the ground.
