Xanthos cosmos

I have raised plants from seed of the new cosmos Xanthos and the plants have grown nice and sturdy until now when I am ready to plant out. Several have collapsed halfway up the stems. There is no sign of pest attack jus the actual stem collapsing. Anyone any idea why?
