Unidentified cucumber plant - what to do
My (very kind) next door neighbour popped in today with a cucumber plant for me that she was given by someone else - no other info ie what variety, greenhouse/outdoors etc. (She only grows flowers and knows I am trying a veg patch this year).
I have already planted (and planted out) an outdoor cucumber variety, which is much smaller than this one at the moment, so hard to tell if they are similar. Is it possible for someone with a more expert eye to tell what type this is, and if not, what is the best thing to do with it, not knowing it's variety.
I don't have a greenhouse (aside from one of the sets of shelves with plastic cover type which is rather small) but I live in Somerset with a sheltered south facing garden which really catches the sun, so if it is a greenhouse type would I be ok putting it in a pot on the patio, close to the house? (Several supposedly tender plants survived the winter happily there).
Thanks! (I've been lurking here a while and found everyone's posts really useful)

It's difficult to tell with cucumbers but I'd put my money on it being a greenhouse type. As long as we don't get another cold and wet spell it may well be ok in the sheltered situation you describe. One tip is to make a slight mound and plant on top which will prevent the stem rotting at ground level which is often a problem with 'cumbers.
