Irish Ivy

I'm just about to embark on cutting my Irish ivy back and as this is a big volume job in taking it to the local tip/recycle centre I was going to shred it down and compost it as brown material in the compost with grass and horse manure but I'm a bit reluctant as I don't want ivy all over my garden next spring.
would you add it to compost or just tip it ?
