This is growing as a shrub in my garden but I never planted it .
Any help would be much appreciated in identifying it.
Thanks.
Hi there. Its a Philadelphus. Some are single flowered and some double flowered but they are deliciously scented!
I'm thinking it looks more like a privet that is about to flower, and the smell is not good.
The smell will tell Nice - philadelphus. Horrid - privet. My philadelphus looks just like that picture.
I am still unsure. I think this plant has arrived as a present from the birds.
The leaves are 3 and 1/2 inches by 2 inches.(in old money !)
which makes me doubt it is a privet.
The parts that are now in flower have a very slight scent but are tiny and in clusters.
Is it possible to post a picture of the fully open flowers?
Big leaves so would rule out both privet and philadelphus.
I am going to get a picture of the open flowers...........I will post asap.
Leaves that big point to it perhaps being one of the laurels. I also thought philadelphus at first.
Here are the flowers..
cherry laurel? Prunus laurocerasus
