Old cherry tree sudden;y oozing sap
Hi all. I have a very large cherry tree which my family and I have had since before I was born. It has recently started oozing sap, which I understand is not a great sign. I have asked a friend of mine who is a tree care chap ( http://www.palmarytrees.com ) to come and view it and if possible, care for it for free, which was very kind but just in advance of his arrival, does anyone have any suggestions as to what could have suddenly brought on the expulsion of so much sap? It seems to be blooming fine and now has sprouted some gorgeous, healthy looking bright green leaves so it's a bit of an oddity really! Thanks in advance.

Hi max. Cherry trees can ooze sap as a result of damage to the bark. I'm not sure if this is the case with your tree.
It is the equivalent of our white blood cells so they exude sap after any kind of damage. That could be insect damage, borers or (hopefully not) bacterial canker. If there are any areas of bark which look recessed compared to the surrounding area then the latter is likely.
Wow, that was fast! Thank you very much to you both! I'll have the tree care guy have a look of course but now I'm a little better equipped to talk about the issue
