Beautiful flower

Hi, I found this plant flowering amongst some other shrubs in my garden today. I don't recall seeing it in previous years! Can anyone tell me what it is?

Mine hasn't even started flowering yet aym280 - what's your variety?  I've got a pink one that flowered last year that I inherited when I moved in two years ago, then a Duchesse de Nemours planted last autumn and Sarah Bernhardt planted a month or so ago.  Not sure if the latter two will flower this year...

It's a peony. Lucky you! I planted about 5 bare roots (Sarah Berdhardts and Karl Rosenfelds) about 3 months ago too but nothing will flower this year. They're all babies, just emerging from the surface. Also I didn't buy them from specialist peony companies, just from the supermarket and the quality wasn't very good - only one or two eyes. Then my mum's friends kindly gave me divisions of their established plants! One has a bud but is struggling to flower, and the other is very small so won't flower as no buds. So I have 7 in total but nothing will flower this year. But I think people with peonies are so lucky...I feel they are the most beautiful flower....

Karl Rosenfelds is lovely. Lucky you. You will have flowers next year unless they are in the wrong place. They are awfully! easy to flower, apart form Fuyu!

I'd very excite about them and hope they do flower. Hopefully I've planted them in the right place. I definitely planted them very shallow. Is Sarah Berdhardt opening now? I thought it was a late flowering one...
