Bamboo !! How to kill.....

Is it possible in any way to kill bamboo!   I moved to rural Ireland last year and it has been a real delight to see all the plants emerging this year and to get to know my garden and the various plants, etc, it contains.  I have a section of garden which was amazing this year and revealed the loveliest and most abundant display of snowdrops, bluebells and daffodils - lots of bulb clumps everywhere.  Unfortunately, the previous owners must have planted a huge swathe of bamboo on top of this display and it has now started to reveal itself in spring this year and is now growing at a phenomenal rate.  I have even found roots now moving into the lawn area.  Can I use roundup to try to kill this bamboo without it affecting the bulbs beneath which are in abundance in the spring.  I am so tempted just to strim the whole lot but don't won't to make matters worse and encourage further root growth.  Help.......

Hi Mrs Bogs. Once the bulbs have died down for their summer rest you can tackle the bamboo. Use the weed killer when the bamboo shoots are young but you will still need to tackle the rhizomes - the roots that 'travel' underground in case they aren't connected to the shoots you treat.
