What is this lovely tree?!
Hi everyone!
I wonder if anyone could identify this tree please?
I fell in love with it after I found it during a trip away recently. It was about 6 feet tall but the reason I noticed it was because it smells absolutely amazing! I'd love to get one but can't seem to find out what it is.
Any help would be great x

I think it's Russian Olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia.)
Your tree looks like a russian olive, Eleagnus angustifolia. Or at least the leaves have the same flakey glitter coating and greenish yellow flowers beneath that resemble faint stars. If so, their scent is enchanting. Do the bees like them?
If you are keen on the heady effects I have attempted to respond to here, there a countless species of Eucalyptus that could loosely match aesthetically. A word of warning, you do need a fair bit of room for them, and for planting associations to work well they need the right kind of tough or aromatic plants around them. In smaller spaces, Eucalyptus can be better kept by boldly pruning them, which causes regrowth to spray out and often quite lushly so. It is the foliage really which is key. Taking this theme a little further, partner plants with a subtle architectural qualities are often effective. Both of these genus' go well with stone and wood structures, but remember for much of the year they on the boring side so it is advisable to plan in some flowers, too.
Thank you!
Yes, I've looked at other Russian Olive photos now and it seems that is what it is.
Thanks both for your answers and advice, very helpful.
I have one of these and grow it as a shrub. It's an absolute joy. Looks stunning with a dark leaved companion like copper beech or the dark form of hazel.
