Planting a potted hydrangea
I received a hydrangea,in tight bud, in a 6-inch plastic pot as a present on Mother's Day. It flowered beautifully, a pale pink. There was no label with the plant. The flowers are now finished. Is now a good time to plant it in the garden? Do I cut it back first?

Have you had it inside or out in the garden?. If inside harden it off for a few days then plant it out idealy in semi shade. Don't cut it back unless there are dead canes coming from the plant. Its a bit mystery to me about tbe flowers dieing mine usuallyl flower from late june until tbe end of the summer. I don't think they will repeat flowering so i would leave the dead flowers on for winter protection
Many thanks, Musher. It has been inside all the time in a north facing room and has been really lovely. I will put it outside in the shade for the next few days, then overnight for a few days before planting. I have hydrangea already in the garden (doing well after helpful hints from this forum) but it has yet to flower, though there are plenty buds on it. Thanks again.
