Blind tulips?
Hello all. Wonder if I can make use of your collective wisdom. We moved house about 4 years ago and in one patch of the garden noticed what looked like tulips coming up in spring, dying back late summer but with no flowers. The leaves looked wider than most tulips I have grown and the stem goes about 6 - 10 inches above ground before the leaves start. They have never flowered and I assume they are simply old tulips that have run out of steam (unless they are some other mysterious form of non flowering bulb!).
I dug a couple up. They are at a good depth and the bulbs look large (although some have offset). I was going to clear them all in the compost pile but wondered has anyone managed to resuscitate non flowering bulbs by drying them out and re planting? If so is it the offsets that will flower? Or is there no way of 'switching' tulips back on once they have decided not to flower?
many thanks for any comments...
