Identifying a plant

handavid5handavid5 Posts: 1

Can anyone give me any information about the plant in the attached image.  I came across this under an oak tree and a small oak tree appears to be growing from the middle of this 'pile' of what looks like some sort of seed attached to the centre via spiral growths.  I have never seen anything like this before and would welcome any information about it.

Many thanks

I know cyclamen do that springy thing, but nothing like that. Can't wait for someone to tell us what it is!

    In London. Keen but lazy.

yes, cyclamen seed pods with their curly stalks. Hederifolium I should think

I agree sanjy, they're freaky weird.  They sort of remind me of some pods on a cylamen I had a couple of years ago but without the curly bits.

Hang in there David, someone will know the answer.

How can you lie there and think of England

  • Definitely Cyclamen seed pods. They'll gradually uncoil and extend outwards from the clump as the year goes on. If you look closely you'll probably find the corms at the centre of the pods.  Leaves and flowers will appear in the late autumn/early winter again if its Cyclamen hederafolium, spring if its Cyclamen coum.  You'll be doing them a favour if you remove the seedling oak!
