Anyone know what this plant is and how I can deal with it?

Hi there!

My wife and I have just moved into a new property and I've been tasked with looking after the garden.

In one section of the garden, mostly concentrated in and around where the previous tenants had their raised bed, there are these large plants dominating the plot.

Does anyone have any idea what they are? I've looked on a few websites and through some gardening books but can't see anything relating to it.

I'd like to know what they are and how best for me to deal with them, if possible.

Here's a photo:

Hope someone can help.

Thanks!

Look like Echium pininana to me.

Grow very tall flower spikes, 6 foot plus! They usually die after flowering.

How can you lie there and think of England

    Excellent!

Thank you so much for getting back to me.

I've had a look around for some info on that and it seems like quite an impressive plant when in full bloom.

However, as there are about 20 of them I might cull all but a couple.

    Thanks again.
