Runner beans

barmyowlbarmyowl Posts: 4

Hi I have been away for a few days and in that time the runner beans in my greenhouse have become long and spindly. Is it possible to pick the tops out of them, or will it damage the plants?

I always plant my runner beans out then put horticultural fleese around them keep that on for a week then take it down in the day and put it up at night do that for another week then it should be ok to leave it off completely, because they're long I'd tie them on but be careful not to break the tops.image

Are they unusually spindly or are they just growing tall and needing support to climb up as that's what runner beans do?

it sounds as if they need planting out.

Our runner beans have climbed to the top of the canes, ie 7 foot, here in South Wales, been planted out for well over a month, first flowers on them too, no joking, had young broad beans for dinner Sunday,  we eat the pod as well.
