Oh lordy... is this a mass of ground elder?

What is says on the tin... is this ground elder? It looks very much like it to my novice eye, but it has a hint of red on it. As it's my first summer here, I don't know the border well enough to know if this is something else coming up!

I'm going to have a big job on my hands if it is...

No, not ground elder - looks like Enchanter's Nightshade to me.

That's what it is, Enchanter's nightshade. Just as invasive as ground elder but not quite as tall

  • Thanks both...

Gawd. My garden is so weedy image I'm so depressed! Ugh. Even my lawn is 95% couch grass.

Mow the grass and get the rest filled with good leafy perennials keen. I have this one and it doesn't give me a lot of grief. It takes over on bare earth but doesn't infiltrate other plants to the extent that ground elder does.image

It forks out a lot easier then ground elder.

  • Thanks Fidget & Nut :) Typically, this border is absolutely stuffed with big established perennials, but there's just one spot which seems a little bare that this has taken hold! Will get in there tomorrow and attempt to kill the beast...

  • .. and tomorrow, I then might have to go and buy something else to fill the gap, of course, once it's gone.....
