Has anyone elses veg been suffering with the cold snap and high winds? Planted my tomatoes out a week ago and they're looking a bit sorry already, leaves are drooping a bit and flowers have dulled...

I planted my toms out during the fab weather last week.

It's about the same as it was in January here in essex today, and to top it all I got this email this morning! - (from Blightwatch)

A Smith Period alert is in place today for at least one of your chosen postcode area(s).

A 'Full' Smith Period occurs when the following criteria are met on 2 consecutive days:-

Minimum air temperatures are at least 10°C Relative Humidity is 90% or above for at least 11 hours Please visit the website for full details of all affected areas.

    Billericay - Essex

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

Am also shivering here in Essex! Toms & squash planted out last week, just hope they're patient enough to wait for warmer days & still produce lots of lovely veg ☺

Exactly the same, planted out my tomatoes and squashes last week when we had lovely weather.  Then the wind changed direction and brought in the cold air from the North sea. How typical

Don't worry East Anglians - we're heading down to Hosta's place tomorrow  and when we come back we'll bring the summer back with us image

    Tee hee.

When I moved from Scotland to Hampshire in 1984, I was astounded at the indignity folk felt about "bad" weather.

Maybe I just used to it in the 28 years I lived there.

Now that I've been in Devon for almost 5 years, I notice it again.

Should the Home Counties always have the best weather?

They sure moan about it when it's not. image

Gorgeous here in Devon again today.

Also in Essex and now very happy that I was away at the beginning of May so planted seeds rather late. Climbing french beans and courgettes still safely tucked up under cover #smug smirk# image

I was at Houghton Hall International Horse Trials in Norfolk at the weekend - started off on Friday in glorious warm sunshine and by Sunday it was freezing!

I feel sorry, well not really, for folks in the eastern half of the UK. You usual enjoy the sort of weather we having been having here in MidWales . 19 - 23 degrees sun nice cooling breeze. Usually it's the other way round so quit moaning. The boots on the other foot for a change and I have no sympathy whatsoever.

Enjoy it while it lasts Dave! I'm sure we'll make the most of the lovely weather when it arrives here in the normally balmy east ?
