Interesting article in Telegraph suggesting the decline of the bee population is down to gardeners. Right, I'll beat myself with a stick right now.

I never touch pesticides, never have. and haven't used herbicides for years.

I think there's more than one reason to be honest. Agriculture plays a massive role, but so does the paving over of gardens and loss of habitat as well as small use pesticide amongst gardeners. I don't like a fussy garden and prefer the natural chaos of a cottage/wildlife garden and I also never use pesticides. Although, slugs and snails are proving to be a massive problem this year (stripped my honesty - leaves, flowers and pods and all!), but I still haven't succumbed to slug pellets.
I had lots of bees last year, but less this year. I think the really wet spring hasn't helped (except for the slug problem!)
