Identify shrub

Please can anyone identify this shrub?

    My first thought was Amsonia tabernaemontana but that's not a shrub.

    Is this really a shrub?

    I think you're right.  I've only read about this one but never found it to buy.

    I shall have to try seed.  Another one for my shopping list.

    I would have said Amsonia too, but as you say it is not really a shrub.

    I think it's amsonia.

    Susan, is this your plant or did you see it somewhere else and assume it was a shrub?

    Thank you all for your help.  The plant was seen at Eaton Hall gardens and I wrongly assumed it was a shrub. In retrospect, I realise it is an herbaceous perennial!
