problem with clematis

I grow clematis in the garden but each year the flowers are eaten. What is eating them and what can I do

    Snails are the usual culprit.

    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Try rolling up a newspaper, then soak it thoroughly, then place it like a collar on the floor round the base of your clematis this evening.   Tomorrow morning gently unroll the newspaper, shake it, and see if any earwigs drop out.   Let us know.
