Good call, 5 petals - looks like Geum urbanum, probably exaggerated about 4ft tall, 2 ft more likely, I was told this was a weed what do you think?

Not something you want really.  The seeds stick to clothes and fur and once they get spread it will keep popping-up for years to come.  I would get rid before the seeds form.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Nikki, I think it is the common meadow bettercup you have there. This does reach the heights you mention.

I am horribly familiar with this plant at all stages of development. It is not a buttercup and it can certainly grow over two feet tall, especially at the back of the border where you can't get at it! It's a geum urbanum. Predictive text grim urbanum - how appropriateimage

    In London. Keen but lazy.
