Brown Aloe Vera

image

I aquired this aloe Vera plant from my grandma on 1st May. She fell ill in november and is now in a nursing home and this was just going to be binned. I have always wanted an aloe plant and have read up a bit on care. It was quite neglected since November and has been on a south facing window sill. It is now on a west facing window sill. My mum did water it a few times when she went to sort the flat out. I gave it a water when I got it home but have left it since.

Any ideas what I can do to help it get green and healthy again?

The reddish colouring may be because it's been in a sunny spot - mine is in an east facing window and keeps its green colour.

Mine looked like that about a month ago. I  was going to chuck it out. I left it on the mantelpiece in a north facing room and forgot about it. Now it's green and needs repotting !

Forgot to mention it has plenty of water before I abandoned it.

Mine sometimes goes like that and it's on an East facing window but it comes back to normal and It gets very little water. I have abandoned/forgotten about it for ages at a time and it's very forgiving.

They grow wild on the roadside in Barbados and trust me, they're not overwatered there. They grow pretty much in sand so even in the rainy season they drain really quickly.

yes i moved mine to a sunny windowsill for 5 days and mine went like that, i have moved it back to it's north facing window where it's happy again and growing green.

  • How quickly would the green come back if moved? It's on a west facing wonder but in a sport thats shaded by the porch roof. I thought that would help but it's not really improved much. Should I move it?

i'd move it to a window where it gets light but not sun on it, the new growth will then be green, won't take long
