They won't come out like grannysmiths or golden delicious.

You could spend a lot of time and space getting a very poor result.

Archie: I wouldn't bother growing apples from seeds. According to Chris Beardshaw's report, an apple genomes have 17 chromosomes and it is very difficult to replicate the exact mother plant, and you are more likely to get crab apple instead or something quite different.

But if you want to do it for fun, why not?

Im hoping for the seeds to grow into crab apple trees so what should i do with them now?

If you think they were ripe when you ate the apple (often not) and good and plump and viable. sow them in a pot of good draining compost and wait.

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • aym280, I think I am in the same situation as you - sorry for hijacking the thread a little. I trimmed back my apple trees a touch over the winter, shoved the sticks in some compost meant to promote roots, and the sticks grew a few leaves... but no more. I don't think they are dead but they don't appear to be living either.

Apart from that, I am aware that they might turn out like the donor trees but am willing to take the chance
