Magnolia Problems

in Plants
Can anyone help - my magnolia (an ordinary white flowered soulangeana type) appears to be dying - the leaves are very yellow and many have turned brown from the tip. It has been in a container for about 12 years and has always been very healthy with up to 30 flowers every year - this year 4 blooms!

Unless the container's very large, and you've been very careful about changing some of the soil each year and feeding, I suspect it's root bound and starving. They're not really container plants.
A pic would help with other suggestions too joan
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thanks for your advice - I feared it might be that. It is in a large older type galvanised dustbin and I do refresh the top 3" of compost every spring.
My Magnolia Stellata I think, died and I found something in th bark which I was told was 'A scale insect'.... It was too late to treat and thetree was not cheap.. I was told the tree was stressed and that is what happens.. The stress was kids kicking footballs across the gardens and only one who was stressed was me....
I had to spebn hundreds to fence off my garden.... Bo I have not replaced the Magnolia..
