Looking for recommendations for Privacy hedges for coastal cottage in Scotland???

What you plant will depend on whether it is a north or east coast compared to a west or south coast. On the west coast there are many hedges of a quick growing fuchsia (can't remember name) and also hydrangeas. Have a look at what's grown in the neighbourhood.
Gorse
That will withstand anything and create a sacrificial shelter belt - you can then plant inside it.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I too vote for gorse.Though it is highly underestimated now.Did you know that earlier it was treated highly by the peasant farmers because of its value? Gorse acts as a shelter for the other plants especially where animals are concerned.
