rose plants moved in december
hi folks, my rose trees had to be moved within my back garden because of house extension. some have got few buds but some have really few and one has no sign of life-no leaf or bud but if its bark is scratched then it is green. what should i do. also to my sadness there are small green pests (eating away i guess) on the buds and new leaves. what should i do. i have rose fungicide. posting photo here will help?
my magnolia plant has its leaves eaten by something. what can i do now? does plant have a chance? it hardly has any leaves but shows tiny shoots.
how to know if a pest is bothering a plant, or any disease or if root is under attack?
i am new to gardening but have spent a lot of money buying new plants this year

Hi shal4. It sometimes takes a while for plants to settle in after being moved. Your rose branches should be cut back severely now to an outward facing bud. Forget about flowering as the plant needs to develop a good root system and trying to flower only weakens it. I am guessing that the little green pests you describe are aphids (greenfly) so just rub them off between finger and thumb to kill them. I don't use insecticide myself but there are ones you can use on the rose plants. Fungicide is good for black spot but won't kill the bugs. On your magnolia it could be caterpillars eating the leaves. Again you need to take a good look and remove any caterpillars you find. The fact that it has a shoot means it is still ok.
thanks a lot ladybird 4... should i remove any small flower buds of rose plants?? u mean i should cut back the branches right upto where new buds r appearing? is this a good time to do that? many thanks
also i have a dwarf lilac plant which i bought last month. it has drooped and leaves shrivelled and brown stems. but few new shoots can be seen. do u know the reason? i water it daily.
how to know if root is in trouble and how to correct it please. many thanks once again for your useful tips.
I would cut back to a leaf bud facing outwards on the branch and this may mean losing some flower buds too but don't worry about that and you are watering your lilac too much. If it is in a pot it should only be watered when the soil on the top is dry - at the most about once a week. New shoots means there is hope
thanks ladybird4!!
You're very welcome.
