Use Weedkiller Or Pull Weeds Out?
Hi, I have a problem with weeds growing in my back garden which is mostly paved with flags/block paving with small borders round the edges.
The weeds are growing in between the paving stones, at the edges and along the borders. I have tried using Weedol Path Clear but this doesn't seem to have done anything and I know that in the summer months the weeds tend to grow with force and get very big and tall.
I think I have a mixture of normal weeds, foxglove and bluebells although I may be wrong on that. Here are some photos to show what I mean:
So I was wondering whether I should continue with a weedkiller treatment or should I just try to pull the weeds out? I don't know how to stop them growing back really.
Thanks for any help.

There used to be a product called 'Total' it killed weeds in your situation for 5 years duration but I think the EU banned it.. I have the same problem and a couple of weeks ago I purchased a Gas Weed burner wand.. I have yet to use it.. Pulling weeds just breaks them off the roots and so they comback...
Aren't Bluebells protected now?

In my experience Pathclear takes ages to kill existing weeds but does prevent new ones from growing so maybe you just need to give it a bit more time. I usually weed by hand first before treating just for appearance sake.
Weed killer is horrible stuff, I never use it anywhere. Boil your kettle and pour it between the paving over the weeds, they'll die pretty quickly (within a day or so)
Thanks very much for the replies. I applied the Patch Clear about 2 weeks ago and it does say on the box I should see results after 14 days but it can take up to 28 days to work.
I think the best option for now is to pull up what weeds there are now as they're getting quite big and use a hoe between the paving and then perhaps use other methods in the future.
You will often find that weedkillers seem to have no effect for quite some time and then the weeds go brown and die very suddenly. My preference is to remove weeds manually, but where necessary I will gladly attack with Roundup or similar.
Have faith. Pathclear does take up to 2 weeks to work but it will definitely kill the weeds and keep the soil weed free for 3 months. Once the weeds have died you can go round and pull them out. The trick is to apply Pathclear before your weeds get this big. It is all much tidier done when the weeds are small.
