Dying front garden hedge

I moved into my house this time last year, when my front edge was very healthy and green. It now seems to be in slow decline and getting worse! It seems to be dying and/or already dead!! I've put some pictures below. I just don't know what could be wrong. Please could you let me know your thoughts and also if you think they are beyond repair? Thank you very much.

What a shame. Sometimes these cupressus type plants do not take to being trimmed back into old wood as they won't grow again. Was the hedge cut? I saw one like this across the road from me and the neighbours had to take it all out. You could always leave it for a while to see if it shows signs of recovery.
Rebecca that is dieback. The brown patches won't regrow. All you can do I let the green parts of the hedge grow and hope it covers the dead areas. Although looking at it you may have to replace it altogether. Tip, hedges need cutting wide at the base, narrow at the top. Bad cutting will lead to dieback and the hedge has been badly cut.
