yellowing bamboo

I recently inherited 2 golden bamboo plants that are in need of a bit of tlc. the leaves are all yellow. they had been left in small pots in the corner of a garden during the winter and I'm imagining that they may have wind damage or something. I've repotted them in huge tubs and gave them some bonemeal fertiliser but should I strip the leaves or cut it all back to nothing? I have a smaller bamboo in my front garden in a pot to conceal my gas meter and it is so much healthier than these two poor plants.
