    Hi Geum. It looks very like a globe artichoke at first glance. When the buds open it may be easier to make a proper identification.

    Like a giant mutant yellow scabious. Seeds like a demon with huge fat taproots.

  • ah, HF, I do have a biggie of those across the other side of the garden - I didn't clock it might be the same thing as these are more stumpy and have turned up in hordes rather than just one. 

    I don't want any more of them, one is enough image

    get them out sooner, if you don't want them , rather than later. Remember the big tap root.

  • This is the border I dug over last year and replanted. Pretty sure that there were about 100 more of these buggers in there, it was like a forest. I had to dig down about a metre image

    I might have a horrible job ahead of me...

    Oh no... I planted one of those last year. Didn't know about the tap root. What's wrong with me and garden thugs in disguise. ???
