Is there anyone that can help identify this plant please. Saw it at Herne Bay Gardens on the sea front this week.

    Hi there. It is Echium pininana. Fabulous plant but not hardy. Adored by bees and it can be gigantic.

    Many thanks for that, the Bees do love it as I saw. Surprised it's not hardy as it was on the front, maybe it had a little micro climate. My garden is fairly sheltered so might give it a go.

    It was really lovely at Herne Bay, reminded me very much of Felixstowe on the East coast. You can't miss the plants. As you look at the pier they are to the right hand side. I haven't been to Kent before so it was lovely to see it, the only day it rained was Wednesday, the rest of the week was warm and sunny. It would be worth a visit to see.

    There's some great ones in the churchyard at Cromer  (North Norfolk coast). 


    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
