Blueberry and goji berry

kbopkbop Posts: 12

hi my two small blueberries and goji berry were bought from band q and were in small maybe 2and half inch pots to begin with last year, the blueberry had three berries and the goji had none.

last year I repotted them into larger but still small containers where the blueberry have come on leaps and bounds with a lot of flowers, the goji berry still has none however.

I have given a top dressing of eracious compost but would like to place them in larger pots but I am wondering if this will affect    the fruiting? if I repot will the plants start forming more roots and focus less on the berries, or will it make no difference?

I would like to keep them in containers as I am unsure of my gardens ph however wondering if the goji berry will ever fruit in the container.

thanks for any advice

The blueberry sounds fine - just keep repotting using ericaceous compost as it grows and finally into a 50 or 60cm pot for its permanent home.  I have Goji berries planted into the ground and they are about 4 years old now.  They finally flowered last year but no fruit set.  I've read that they need poor soil to fruit and think mine may be too rich (it's improved clay) so may give up on them if no fruit forms this year.  I would also like to hear from anyone who is successfully growing Goji.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

There seem to be a lot of people with problems getting Goji berries to fruit. Like Bob  I planted mine in good garden soil and was rewarded with vigorous growth and no flowers, one shoot was 7ft long. I have now consgned it to very poor soil in a sunny spot. indications are they do need as much sun as possible. Amongst theories I have come across for non fruiting are:

1] A very poor flowering clone is being sold in many British outlets.

2] like Blue berries you need two different varieties to get a good set of fruit.

Not heard of Goji berries needing ericaceous soil, try re-poting with a lot of grit a a little top soil.
