Shady spot

Morning all,

I am looking for a nice plant, shrub to fill a shady spot in my garden, it's behind a wall so gets little to no light throughout the day (and year), I have some lovely red geums and a dark red peony next to it so hoping for a purple or white flowered thing to go in there. Or a green leaved beauty if nothing else will grow. Any suggestions? I have slightly clay soil but it gets so much manure each year that it isn't clump forming at all.

Hi there. You could take your pick from buddleja, choisya, euonymus, mahonia, sarcococca. There are lots more but those are a starting point

Variegated osmanthus would also suit the spot. They also have the added bonus of scented flowers x

  • Thanks chaps, I will look into them. Can't wait to fill that horrible space! It has been bugging me for ages. image
