Isn't she lovely?

Impulse buy at the Garden Centre yesterday - I just couldn't leave her behind.

I'd never heard of semiaquilegias before but I'm very enamoured with this one (and am hoping she'll take my mind off the mess I've made of pruning my amelanchier image).

It would have been a crime to leave her LG image

Lovely colour - and very similar to the alpina clematis. That would be a good combination in a border.

Nice open, single flowers for the bees too  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Gorgeous, I googled it and found this on gardeners word blogspot, so it seems it does set seed, I wonder if they would come true if there are other aquilegias in the garden?

'The description on the labels says Semi-aquilegia ecalcarata 'Sugar Plum Fairy':  Is a fully hardy plant with charming pink-purple lantern-shaped flowers in early summer.  It is ideal for cottage-style or mixed borders and rockeries.  Height 40cm (16in) x Spread 30cm (12in).  It needs a moist but well-drained soil in full sun.

NOTE:  The label warns not to cut off the flowers after they fade but to leave them and allow them to set seed so that these short-lived perennials can spread naturally.  I think I shall sow some of the seeds in a pot, just to be safe.'

I wondered about other aquilegias too. I love them but granny's bonnets are a bit of a weed in my garden so I was determind not to buy one when the purples and pinks spread themselves so freely. And then this semiaquilegia steals my heart! I have no idea if they would cross, I hope not tbh.

All the flowers are over but there are definitely seeds... Not sure whether to try to save any or just let it do its thing. Am worried that if I leave it to self seed I'll weed out the seedlings by accident.
