Acer leaves drooping

Can anyone please tell me what's happened to my Acer? It was fine a couple of weeks ago until I noticed it was covered in bugs and sprayed it with a bug killing spray.... I also cut off two really long branches that just looked very out of place.... Could either of these two things have affected it??
