Grass inborders

I set out to create   herbaceous border some 10 years ago but steadily  time my plants have become overwhelmed with a vigorous grass .despite weeding regularly the grass is now in the roots of my biggest plants. It kills off newly planted ones and I am at a  Aston where to go from here

any help would be appreciated

  • Any kind of grass is a nightmare because of the way it can grow from its roots. You can use glyphosate and attack it heavily once every few months.

with regards to it killing plants every time you dig up a perennial to divide it, wash the roots and pick of the grass roots. A nightmare but over time it does work.

Or just keep hand picking. I know it's hard but one of you will give up at some point ..... It's also worth finding out the type of grass, it can help in irradicating if you know what you are up against. I have a similar battle with mares tail on my allotment so I wish you luck.
