Vine Weevil

I have just found vine weevil grubs and an ants nest in a huge half barrel.  I have emptied it out and removed all the plants and washed them.

Hopefully the birds will enjoy the feast of grubs.  Question is, can I re-use the compost if I use Provado on it. Also can I re-plant the plants or is it best just to start again.

Won't the provado be more expensive than New compost?

    In London. Keen but lazy.

Never thought of it like that.  New compost being opened 'as we speak'.

  • Vine weevils love mpc. Less happy in a potting compost and soil mix. You can deter them by putting a 3 cm layer of grit over the surface, which means the adults can't get down into the compost to to lay their eggs.  Last year my pots of lilies were given a soak of Provado in May and again in September, no sign of vine weevils when I repotted one. Fingers crossed, no lily beetles either so far.

Thank you B3 and Nutcracker.  I will do as you suggest.
