how do i get rid of bluebells

Bluebells have come into my garden from a neighbours and they are spreading and swamping my choice plants. Last couple of years I have tried to dig them up and also take of all the blooms but they are still multiplying.  Can anyone advise please

If you have Spanish bluebells, you need to dig down to your elbows and then you might find the bulb. The best thing you can do us pull out the leaves (a vertical tug gets the most) and forget about them until next spring, when you repeat the process until one of you gives up.

  • We back on to 200 acres of woodland which has a glorious display of wild English bluebells in April.  Unfortunately the land our house is built on was part of the woodland and we have lots of them in the front garden especially.  You are quite entitled to dig them out of your garden, but they will fight back with vigour. We have been trying for 30 years.

This is really sad......bluebells are endangered from hybridisation with Spanish bluebells. They are really special plants! If you really can't live with them, give them to me.

Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

This is interesting ! I was thinking of putting some bluebell bulbs at the front of my garden - would they take over ? I was imagining them looking pretty in front of my fence !

Bluebells taking over in my garden too. Seems to be everyone this year. You have to pull them out. We pulled out a whole massive clump from behind rose bushes last week. Forget me nots have also spread all over.

  • The 200 acres of woodland at the top of the garden has a glorious display of bluebells in April which we thoroughly enjoy.  Before 1913 our house and garden was part of that woodland hence the bluebells, they are a plant in the wrong place.  I have planted a row of them in the yard from the front garden which are available to anyone who wants some/all of them.
