Plant or weed?

image

I believe this is a weed but not sure on what one. Want to check first just encase it is ground cover.

This one looks like buttercup but grows up to around 400mm tall?

also found this when I was weeding, had buried its self in soil, looks like a bee or wasp but not sure?

any help would be great and thanks in advance

The second one is buttercup, don't know the other's:)

  • The insect is the pupa of some kind of moth. It is impossible to say until it emerges.

the chrysalis is a moth or butterfly

I think the first might be field bindweed, Convolvulus arvensis. Dig it up and see if it's got long white roots

I think Nutcutlet is right about the first one. I've got that popping up in some of my borders and it does have long white roots. I wasn't sure exactly what it is but I have got bindweed with tiny flowers in the lawn so makes sense it's field bindweed.

    bindweed,buttercup,goat moth pupa.

  • Thank you for your help, will take the bindweed out in morning then save me looking like an idiot to the new neighbours and think I will remove the buttercups too, replace with some perennials.

its a new garden so just making use from existing plants this year to see what grows and where, reposition where they look better and start adding next spring So thus I may add a few more plants over the growing season to test your minds.

thank you again for your comments ?

You're doing exactly the right thing YG.  You could have some wonderful and/or expensive plants in there, so best to see out a whole season to find what you have before digging things out. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
