Help please
Can anyone please help me ID this stuff. I have just moved house and it is everywhere in the garden coming through block paving, slabs concrete steps. Have tried some weed killers with zero effect, it appears indestructible and help info greatly appreciated. Thank you

I might be wrong but I think it's the dreaded horse tail or mares tail :-( If you crush it a bit in your hands to bruise it before applying glyphosate then that will help it take up the weed killer better. I don't think you ever truly eradicate it (as its roots are said to go down a metre :-O), you just keep knocking it back so it grows back weaker each time! I had it in my previous garden (thanks to the neighbours lack of control over it) and I kept spraying it and it did come back less and less over the years.
I think it might be horsetail a very prolific weed and hard to get rid of, try weed killing again but bruise the weeds first stand on them if possible.
Ah you got there before me Emma.

This is the only thing that'll touch it and even then it'll need repeat spraying. Don't use an ordinary garden sprayer as it does for the seals. Hozelock do a chemi spray that is fine.
Good Luck.
Cut it all off, as it grows back hit it with weedkiller
The fresh new growth will quickly transport the active ingredients to the roots and weaken the plant
Wow, such a fast response from everyone. Thank you all very much for the answers. looks like I have a job on. Once again thank you all.
Schadenfreude!
We've all been there!!
Kurtail ain't cheap but it's the only weedkiller I've come across which actually does seem to kill the damn marestail.
I had success with Super Concentrate RoundUp Stump and Tree killer. Used to paint it on neat with a brush to get as much coverage as possible. As said it's a nightmare of a weed. Extremely resilient.
I once read some advice given was that the best thing to do was..........move house!
I got my first spray of Kurtail on this year while the growth was only 4-6 inches high. It was more successful than previous efforts but as usual I've missed a couple of bits. It's a b****y scourge! I think you're right Dave.
