Really Daft Question
My mind has a habit of wandering somewhat, and after reading the very interesting Beetroot thread I asked myself……….
Why are some pots/module trays round and others square?
Any thoughts?

Stacking??? Space saving???
Mmmm ....
Round cells with require less compost than square ones of the same dimension? i.e. 2" diameter needs less compost than 2" square.
That's from a gardener's point of view but from a business point of view????
Pencils were made hexagonal because it meant less waste. It also meant they didn't roll but that was just a happy accident.
I prefer square pots for a better root system, roots will go round and round in the bottom of round pots, they don't do that in square one.
also, you can fit square ones in a tray much easier.
I like square because you don't waste water when they're all stacked beside each other
Gardening gives one lots of time to think.......
I suspect they were all initially round when made from clay as square pots are harder to manufacture.
Now made from plastic. Square probably easier to transport and just as cheap as round to make in moulds.
Only thoughts though
