Runner Bean Leaves

imageimage

I sowed my runner beans in the greenhouse a couple of weeks back and they have germinated well.  However, one or two of the leaves have started to turn white, but not all over.

There are no obvious signs of pests, any ideas please?

Do you spray them. Could it be spray has gathered and dried on the leaves? It is rather large for that though.

Creepy green man BTW. I had a real one in a horse chestnut outside my bedroom window. Tried to take a pic it didn't work. Weird!

  • The only spraying has been a tap water mist spray during the recent hot weather.  We are in a hard water area though...

It doesn't seem to be in the veins so it's not systemic. Does it brush off or is it within the leaf?

  • No PP it doesn't wipe off.  The plants have been outside hardening off for the last few days and prior to that were on the floor of the greenhouse by the door.

The white seems to be fading a little so perhaps it just that some of the leaves have not had enough sunlight?

That looks like cold damage to me, no problem they'll be fine, mine will be going out this coming weekend.

  • Thanks Lyn, it did get down to +1 in the greenhouse a couple of nights last week.

With night temperatures now forecast to be 6 < low teens over the next week here in Berkshire, I am off to plant them out now.
