Help with my heather !

imageimageimageimage

hi, can anyone give me any advice as to what to do with this heather...it looks very pretty in the winter months but it now looks scruffy and not sure if I cut it right back whether it will grow again?  Also someone's told me the tall peice is dead..it still flowered but does look abit old...

any advice would be great thank you! ????

The taller piece isn't dead Hattie, the growth has just gone to the top. You can cut heather back hard, BUT first you need to mound some ericaceous compost around the base. This will encourage new growth at the base. When that appears and starts poking through the compost you then cut it back. It takes a few weeks but with a bit of patience you can rejuvenate it.

  • Hi thank you all! Iv really had no idea what to do with this. i think il take the larger peice out and just concentrate on the smaller ones

how often do we see heathers like that in the 4th photo? A LOT. that's how often.

For every nicely tended plant we see 100s of woody horrors.
