Caution! Virus

VerdunVerdun Posts: 23,348

a thread today about helleborus black death...you wont thank me for being botanically correct......made me check my cannas, hostas and hellebores today. Not pleasant in heavy rain image

viruses are now seen in more and more of our gardens.  They are affecting all kinds of plants from annuals to trees. From once being scarce only a few years back they are now commonplace.

No cure for them but we can be vigilant.  Regularly check the obvious foliage stuff and remove if viruses found.  they can be air borne, soil borne, transmitted by aphids, by us via our hands, tools and clothing.

we cannot cure an infected plant but we can be on our guard and remove them before they cause more problems

Wiping secateurs and loppers with meths before moving on to the next plant may help, but many are carried by aphids. Encourage the blue tits.

Thanks for the 'heads up' Verdun. I shall be more vigilant around my garden.

I'm not saying it might not be a good idea, but how practical is it?
