Brasica protection needed

Hi all

Having lost a number of plants to the dreaded cabbage white last year I am covering all my brasicas this year to give me a fighting chance of an excellent crop.

There is nothing worse than having to go over all your plants picking off caterpillars which are reacting on your greens.

By the way protection also stops our other friendly creature that damn wood pidgeons which decimates the soft greens and poo,s every where spoiling.

So when my neighbour next door changes one of his tunnels hands up for the old net which was gave in kind and has a clear use

Lets hope for a great harvest from sprouts, red cabbage, green sprouting brockali and kohlrabi for starters

I much prefer my greens raw, including sprouts.

    Sprouts are beelzebub's vegetable.

I always net brassicas. Also raising them in modules helps, as they can be hidden from bugs and birds, until they are strong. My Pak Choi are doing well, just a few holes. I'm wordering if I can use bird netting to keep off butterflies or if I have to use the fine stuff. I use the latter on carrots.

Sprouts with Marmite. Only for the brave!!! Butterflies will get through bird netting. I have watched them doing it.
