  • I am aware that the name needs some serious attention.

Have you any suggestions? I will take a look into the thread and see if I can get a clearer picture of what it could be.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Hazel,

Different leaf vacs give varied results, some are more powerful than others. The product I am designing will reduce the need to do the job twice resulting in an easy to use walk-behind push option, reducing the need to bend over maintaining a nice even spread underfoot with no bare patches.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Ross will it work on different surfaces or is that asking too much? Are the spikes replaceable? They seem to be nut and bolted from my brief look. Will there be easy access to the innards to change them?

We don't want much, do we???

How about a simple orientation of your existing name: Leave-Less / Leaf-Less.

Great project Ross and I hope you can find a manufacturer who can enable you to take it to market at an 'acceptable' price level and of course allow you to make some money somewhere along the line. Have you done any research to establish what the price point might be?

  • That is fine Plant, the questions are good.

I can confirm that it will work on both gravel and grass. The spikes are extremely hard wearing and I have altered the latest design to ensure they will not bend or damage on impact. I have also designed these components differently since the dyson award so that they can be replaced if necessary.

My role as a product designer is to adhere to the users needs and focus my product around them.

If you are aware of anybody else who has issues with removing leaves from gravel their feedback to the survey would also be very helpful.

    Thanks

  • Hi Dave,

Thank you for your input and encouragement. I will have a think about the name suggestion, I think what you have suggested is a really nice concept.

In terms of the price point I am working on the design and the price is definitely something which I need to bare in mind. I am planning on running some user testing sessions further down the product development process which will give people the opportunity to tell me the amount they would be willing to spend once they have seen the functionality of the device. I have researched leaf removal devices online, pretty much all of them are powered and the price varies depending on the functionality. Also some devices are used commercially.

Thanks for your kind words, hopefully I will be able to find some manufacturers who will be willing to transform the project into something which is commercially viable.

  • Hi Mr J

I suppose it depends on the depth of gravel and how evenly spread it is. Recently my mum was using the lawn mower, picked up a couple of stones which shattered both of our french doors. That was being used across grass which all be it was bad luck. I can imagine there is a large safety risk there because if you're not careful you could be spraying stones everywhere. In most cases gravel is not particularly level.
