Hi there. I never water my garden but I do water my pots when the plants look a bit droopy ot the soil is dry on the surface. Not sure about the brown grass though.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Pots when the top inch or so is completely dry, depends on weather & size of pot, how pot bound plants are,how much greenery to stop rain getting to soil, borders when plants start to flop or when dry if you have recently planted new perennials and shrubs that are just getting established and lawn never.
Watering your lawn makes it greener in the summer but wastes enormous amounts of water. Most of the water never makes it to the roots, it just evaporates in the heat. The grass will recover fine when the rains return in autumn.
I agree I never water , its fine... Odly I rarely water my front gardenjust now and them on newly planted things.. If I do this the roots go deeper in search of water..my lawn does not suffer brown spots..I see people get brown patch if dogs wee on the grass.. My roses look great I never water them, just prune etc.
The rear garden is my fruit n' veg area and I have lots of large planters I water daily in the morning if it hasn't rained... The big problem is if I go away they have to have a big drink before and when I get back.. I have no choice....
I try not to go on holsi in the growing season and hope it rains when I am away..

What do you use as a mulch then, I worry about leaving leaf debris on the bed cos of encourageing hiding places for slugs and snails..
